Disposal help
For hazardous items, contact your county's household hazardous waste program or a licensed abatement contractor. In Florida, the Department of Environmental Protection lists county collection centers. Asbestos removal is regulated and must be handled by a licensed professional.
Safe pickups
- Meet during daylight windows. Keep the pickup in a driveway or job-site entrance.
- Inspect before loading. You take materials as-is.
- Bring gloves, straps and help for heavy items. Secure loads on the road.
- Never enter an active construction zone without the site owner's permission.
How screening works
Titles and descriptions are checked against a list of hazardous terms before a listing can be posted. Photo suggestions are checked too. Sellers must also confirm that the items are free of asbestos, lead paint and hazardous substances. Two independent reports put a listing on hold for review. Screening reduces risk but can't guarantee that any material is safe. Buyers must inspect and decide for themselves.
